Advanced Audio System Comes to Iconic NYC Venue
Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp. has announced that Sphere Immersive Sound will be installed at Radio City Music Hall this fall.
The groundbreaking audio system, which powers the Las Vegas Sphere, will debut in time for the 2025 "Christmas Spectacular Starring the Radio City Rockettes."
Following the holiday season, the system will be used for all concerts and events at the venue starting in January 2026.
The Technology Explained
Sphere Immersive Sound utilizes 3D audio beamforming and wave field synthesis technology. This system is designed to deliver perfectly clear and uniform sound to every seat in an auditorium.
The technology allows for incredible precision, creating personalized audio experiences. For example, it can deliver audio in different languages to specific seating locations simultaneously, so one guest can hear a performance in Spanish while another hears it in English.
At the Las Vegas Sphere, this is achieved with approximately 167,000 speakers working in unison.

New Features Debut at Radio City
The installation at Radio City marks an evolution of the technology, with two new features being introduced:
3D differential beamforming technology: This gives artists and production teams the ability to digitally sculpt sound within the venue for greater creative control.
Intelligent Audio System Synthesis: This feature allows for the integration of non-HOLOPLOT speakers into the system, increasing its flexibility.
MSG's Strategic Expansion
The upgrade is a key part of MSG Entertainment's strategy to deploy Sphere technology across its portfolio of venues. The system has already been introduced at the Beacon Theatre.
"The introduction of Sphere Immersive Sound at Radio City is the next evolution in the nearly 100-year legacy of this iconic venue," said Josephine Vaccarello, Executive Vice President of Live for MSG Entertainment. She called it a "significant investment... that will benefit all artists and guests."
